Does Logitech Control Center not work with your mouse?
Another option might be to use ControllerMate.
To the best of my knowledge, Logitech Control Center for Mac (aside from being generally crummy and unstable software) does not work with any of Logitech's 'Gaming' mice. These Mice use a special application on Windows separate from the normal setpoint application used for Logitech's other mice. They are not recognized at all by control center.
I have not tried ControllerMate, but would expect to see the same issue. The problem seems to be that the mouse firmware is reserving those buttons for special uses and not passing them onto the system as usable buttons (the dpi-switching and battery status check are mouse-only functions — they do not interact with the host OS at all when activated). Changing them in the Logitech gaming application updates the firmware to simply pass them to the host OS as buttons, allowing most any app to configure them.
yes, I have seen that there is an 'onboard memory profile', which means that some settings are not handled by the OS but directly written into the mouse.
Anyway, I was searching for a mouse with a bunch of buttons (for desktop use not gaming), and I think this G700 is the mouse I need! Thanks for the hint
Does Logitech Gaming Software Work With Mac Computer
Thanks for this great tip, works great for my Logitech G500.
Instead of plugging it into an actual PC I just started up my VM in Parallels Desktop, connected the mouse exclusively to it, installed the software and ran the configuration. How to install mac os on pc. After this procedure SteerMouse was able to remap the 'more/less DPI' buttons to my desired function.
Confirm this works with the VX Revolution mouse on OSX. The button for 'internet search' behind the wheel never worked on OSX even with Steermouse, but after assigning it to 'middle button' or something else in Windows Setpoint (it won't let you select generic for this button), you can set it to anything in Steermouse.
Superb tip, thanks!
do you guys know how to use the additional buttons on a Razer Tarantula keyboard?
thanks
Well, this sucks, doesn't seem to work on the newer version of the MX518. On the older one, you can use the DPI settings buttons without this hint, but I just got a new one that is revised and even with this hint no go. Sad..
Logitech Gaming Software Download
For anyone wanting to use this hint with a Logitech G700 and your mac there's one other step that must be done, or at least that I had to do..
I hooked up my G700 to a PC, installed the logitech setpoint software, remapped all buttons to 'Generic button' and then re-attached the G700 to my iMac. Nothing was different, I still couldn't 'see' the G8, G9 and G10 buttons (used for DPI adjustment normally) when using USB overdrive 3.0.1
But then I clicked '+' and clicked them and voila! They showed up.
Prior to using the setpoint software to reset those buttons to 'Generic' USB overdrive wouldn't add them. Now it will. I have now mapped all the buttons on the G700 to what I want, thanks.
